If you’re thinking that a career in construction might be a good career path for you, then this is a great course option. This Nationally Recognised course will introduce you to carpentry and building skills with some fun projects to work on.

This program has been designed by construction industry experts specifically for schools. Those who show genuine interest and ability throughout this program can progress to a school-based apprenticeship and receive some course credits from this program.

Students are enrolling with Adapt Education Pty Ltd trading as My Industry Training.

Note: This program is only available to school cohorts. Individual enrolments are not currently accepted.

Course Details

Course Outcomes

  • CPC10120 Certificate I in Construction
  • General Construction Induction Training (White Card) – required to access any construction site
  • Depending on elective options – First Aid Certificate or Working at heights certificate may be included
  • 3 QCE points
  • Access to industry employment and apprenticeship opportunities
  • Completion of numerous 1st year apprenticeship modules

Duration

Duration: approximately 20 days

Structure to be confirmed with your school. We have several recommended course structures including:

  • 1 day per week for 1 semester
  • 1/2 day per week for 1 year
  • 1 line on timetable for 1 year

Delivery Modes

This course may be delivered by Adapt Edcation Pty Ltd trading as My Industry Training or through a partnering arrangement with your school. Your school will have a course outline or subject handbook detailing the delivery options available.

RTO/Trainer Directed: The course is trained on school campus during school hours by a Trainer from My Industry Training. All resources, tools, equipment and materials are provided. Training and assessment is conducted by My Industry Training. This delivery mode is available throughout QLD by negotiation.

School Directed: All program content is provided by My Industry Training. The course is trained by a teacher from your school who has been approved by My Industry Training as having the appropriate qualifications and experience. In some instances training and assessment may be shared by your school and My Industry Training. This delivery mode is referred to as a partnering arrangement and is available to schools anywhere in Australia.

Practical

Students obtain industry skills through the completion of various construction projects on school grounds. Projects may include standard course construction projects or the school may negotiate a real onsite projects. Note: no external work placement is required.

Equipment

All student resources, tools, building materials and student personal protective equipment is provided.

Fees and Funding

Career Ready funding

This course is approved for Career Ready funding in QLD (also known as VETiS funding). To be eligible students must:

  • be enrolled in a Queensland school in Yr10, 11 or 12
  • not be enrolled in a school based apprenticeship or traineeship
  • not have previously completed a qualification using VETiS funding
  • not be an international secondary exchange student
  • have a genuine interest in pursuing a post-school vocational occupation

Course Fees

  • $0 for students who choose to use their VETiS funded place
  • $2500 for students who are not eligible for VETiS funding or choose a Fee For Service option.
  • Note: where your school is delivering this program through a partnering arrangement, other price options may have been negotiated by your school. In such instances, refer to your schools course outline or subject handbook. Your school will provide a discount code to be entered into the enrolment form.

This Nationally Recognised course consists of 11 units:

CPCCOM1013 Plan and organise work
CPCCOM1014 Conduct workplace communication
CPCCCM1011 Undertake basic estimation and costing
CPCCCM2005 Use construction tools and equipment
CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry*
CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
CPCCVE1011 Undertake a basic construction project
CPCCOM1015 Carry out measurements and calculations
CPCCCM2004 Handle construction materials
RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights (Elective)
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (Elective)

*The course also includes new unit CPCWHS1001, the industry-required General Construction Induction (White Card) mandatory to enter a construction site.

  • It is expected that students have basic written and verbal communication skills, basic numeracy skills and basic computer operating skills.
  • Individual enrolments are not accepted for this program. This program can only be offered to students from participating schools. Participating schools are those that have engaged us to provide this program via one of the delivery methods detailed above.
