Teacher Aide Course – For School Based Students
If you’re looking to become a Teacher Aide (also known as Learning Support Officer, Education Support Officer or Integration Aide), you’ve come to the right place. This Nationally Recognised course will qualify you for employment in public and private schools (from prep through to Year 12) as a Teacher Aide.
In this course, the focus is on building your ability to support students to achieve their educational goals and overcome learning barriers. With industry endorsed content and our innovative course design, you can be on track to a university or job pathway.

Who is this Course For?
This Nationally Recognised course is for:
- School-based students (Yr 10 – 12) seeking a Vocational (VET) Pathway.
- Anyone engaged in a school based traineeship.

Course Outcomes
- Up to 8 Credit Points towards QCE
- Minimum ATAR rank of 74
- Pathways to employment in school education
- Pathway to higher level qualifications and education degree in university
Note: ATAR & QCE information is generic only. Students’ individual circumstances (such as previous qualifications) can impact eligibility for QCE points. Refer to university policies regarding acceptance of VET qualifications and rankings as they can differ (Some universities do not accept Cert III courses for entry). University of the Sunshine Coast offers direct entry options for this qualification.
Study Modes
RTO Delivery
- Full RTO delivery: Students undertake the course Self-Paced Online. This may be fully independent from school studies or you may dedicate spare periods and incursion days to complete the course.
- RTO delivery supported by school: Students undertake the course Self-Paced Online. This is generally built into the student’s timetable. With a dedicated line on their timetable or selected incursion days to complete the course. Adapt Education is responsible for all training and assessment. The school is responsible for providing basic student support and arranging the practical placement.
For each of the above study modes, Adapt Education provide unlimited online, phone and email support to students.
Partnered Delivery
- Some schools have established a partnering agreement with Adapt Education, where the school takes all or some of the responsibility for training and assessing the course. In such instances your school will have a course outline or subject handbook detailing the specific arrangements available and pricing. Typically, students undertake the course through a combination of classroom and online study, known as blended learning.

What is Self-paced Online Learning?
- Self-paced learning provides a flexible study arrangement. You can schedule your study around other classes and personal commitments at times that suit you. There are no assessment due dates and no time tabled lectures. Simply work your way through our online modules with your classmates or at your own pace.
- Online Learning: Modules are provided in our world class online platform. It is user friendly and interactive. You will have access to recorded webinars, videos and other visually engaging resources so there’s less reading for you.
The Fast track your study or take your time, the choice is yours.
Duration
Ideally, you will enrol at the start of Yr 11 and complete by November 1 of Year 12. Enrolments can be accepted from students at any stage through Yr10 – Yr 12 by negotiation. For example if you want to commence early (Yr 10) or change pathways or subjects during Yr 11 or 12, please contact to discuss your options.
As this is a self-paced course, the option to fast-track may be available. Extensions are available but should first be discussed with Adapt Education and your school’s vocational coordinator to determine if it will impact your QCE or ATAR.
As a guide, someone dedicating one line on their school timetable (over Yr 11 & 12) can expect to comfortably complete by the end of Yr 12.
Learning and Assessment
Learning consists of recorded webinars, interactive learning modules and readings. For online students, these are provided in our student portal.
We reduce the assessment workload in this course through the use of integrated assessments. Each course module consists of two key assessment components:
- Theory: quizzes, written questions, case studies, projects, and role plays.
- Practical: observations completed by your supervising teacher (school) and your trainer during your practical placement.
Practical Placement
- You must complete a minimum of 100hrs in an Australian school environment (in a Prep – Yr 12 class or special needs class). These hours may be achieved at your current school or arranged at another school. Our flexible course structure means you can complete the practical hours at any point during your course timeframe.
- Depending on your study mode, the placement may be organised by Adapt Education of your school.
- Additional hours may be required in order to achieve the required performance standards.
- Hours may need to be completed outside of timetabled lessons or through the use of incursion days.
- During your placement you will be providing support to Teachers and students in line with the Teacher Aide job role.

Apart from being a crucial life skill, having up-to-date First Aid certification can improve your employability. You have the option of selecting HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting as an elective unit within this course. Note: selecting this unit is not mandatory. You may book into an Adapt Education first aid course or you can complete it with any provider in Australia.
Some important points to consider if completing the first aid aid unit with Adapt Education:
- For Career Boost funded students, the cost of the first aid unit is inclusive in your fees. For all other students, an additional $120 will apply.
- We will discuss available course dates when processing your enrolment application. We run this program face-to-face at our Wynnum campus regularly.
Some important points to consider if completing the first aid aid unit with another provider:
- You will need to pay the listed course fee to your selected first aid provider;
- Ensure you are booking into a first aid course that includes the nationally recognised unit HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting.
- Simply present your certificate to us on completion and we will credit the unit towards your Education Support course.
As working with children is a part of this course, it is required that students obtain clearance from the relevant authority prior to commencing their practical placement. If you complete your practical placement at your school, a working with children check is not required.

- You should be achieving at least a “pass” or “C-” in English and Maths.
- You will have access to a computer and the internet to complete the assessment requirements of the course. Please discuss with Adapt if this is an issue as strategies can be put in place to assist.
- All students will complete a Language Literacy Numeracy and Digital Skills (LLND) test
